International environmental certification of real estate

Greening is one of the most fashionable trends in the whole world. In environmental friendliness, countries, cities, and buildings compete. That is why there are several international environmental certification of real estate, construction and decoration materials.

For 90% of European companies, environmental performance has a significant influence on the decision to buy or lease new premises. The data came from a survey conducted by Cushman & Wakefield with the participation of members of the board of directors of Europe’s 500 largest real estate companies.

For 42% of companies, environmental performance plays a “significant role”, and 8% – a “very significant role”. Also, 69% of companies believe that environmental concern is an “important” or “very important” factor for their business.

In recent years, systems of voluntary environmental certification of real estate have become increasingly popular. The most common in the world are BREEAM (UK), LEED (US) and DGNB (Germany). We will discuss in more detail the types of international certification in the following publications.
